The Winds of Hope Foundation was officially created on September 9, 1999 in Château d’Oex by Bertrand Piccard, Brian Jones, Thierry Lombard, managing partner of Lombard, Odier, Darier, Hentsch & Cie, Theodore Schneider, president of Breitling and Stefano Albinati, aeronautic counsellor for Breitling. It has received public interest status and is under the supervision of the Swiss Confederation. With the Budweiser prize awarded for their feat as well as a donation from Breitling, the Foundation’s initial capital amounted to CHF 1 million.
