Noma, an appalling disease born of poverty and malnutrition
The malnutrition that kills between 4,000 and 6,000 Nigerien toddlers every year, affected nearly 15% of the under-5s in June 2014. An ideal breeding-ground for noma, which proliferates when immune defenses are at their weakest. AFP journalist Joris Fioriti visited the Sentinelles Center in Zinder in Niger.
