Victorinox
Victorinox is continuing its long-established tradition of humanitarian and social responsibility by investing in the financing of the Winds of Hope Foundation, so that every donation can be attributed in its entirety to activities in the field.
With its 1,000 employees, Victorinox, a flagship of Swiss industry, is the largest knife manufacturer in Europe. For over a hundred years, Victorinox has produced without interruption the famous "Swiss Army Knife". The company also produces other pocket tools, as well as household, kitchen and various specialized professional knives, which are exported to more than a hundred countries. The balloonists Piccard and Jones used Victorinox knives during their historic round-the-world flight in March 1999. It was imperative to find the greatest number of tools for a minimal weight, a condition that the multi-tool Victorinox fulfilled perfectly, becoming a trusted daily friend in the Orbiter 3 capsule.
For example, a Swiss Army Knife was used to cut the tie-lines connecting the balloon to its moorings, allowing the two men to launch off into this record-breaking adventure. On several occasions during their flight, the Victorinox knife was used for operations as diverse as de-icing the panel in the cabin that controlled the burners, opening a tin-can, or cutting up panettone for breakfast.
To perpetuate its bond with the two pioneers, and demonstrate its sympathy with the goals and activities of the Winds of Hope Foundation, Victorinox has decided to support the involvement of the pilots in this new humanitarian adventure, and commit to them as a partner.
