A friendship forged during the Breitling Orbiter adventure, which initiated their humanitarian commitment.
After the first round-the-world balloon flight had been accomplished in March 1999, Bertrand and Brian both became internationally recognized speakers, decorated and distinguished in many countries. They both used every possible opportunity to plead for the elimination of noma and to raise funds: carrying out speaking engagements without charge to the Foundation; being invited and participating in international conferences and humanitarian events; and encountering influential political, financial and economic circles, etc..
For its part, Breitling participates in air-shows with its replica of Breitling Orbiter 3, thus helping promote Winds of Hope and generate support.
Most of the donations were collected because of the reputation and dedication to the cause of noma of the co-founders.
